I concluded The Club right before Christmas. It was so interesting, seeing those times illuminated simulataneously through the biographies of so many of those times' luminaries. It helped that women are included too, whether a well known luminary, such as Fanny Burney, or one perhaps less well known, such as the alternate 'Club' hostess, i.e. women and people the other Club members didn't like, Johnson's great benefactor, Hester Thrale.
