Today's air quality lists at "10+". The ranking only goes up to 10, so. Literally off the chart, etc. For the second year in a row we've exceeded the imagination of the designers of the air quality scale.

That sounds like a 99% Invisible episode.

(We're at 179 on the other scale.)

We are hundreds of miles away from the worst fires, which are mostly on the interior plateaus, though there are some bad ones up-island.

My flight home from my parents' was cancelled because of the smoke, so a friend and I spent the full day on Monday making our way back -- we had some good conversations / brainstorming along the way, though.

I haven't gone outside yet today, but my house smells like a campfire. Tomorrow it's supposed to go down to 5, so I'm excitedly looking forward to "moderate risk" air quality.

We're at 173 on the AQI scale in Seattle.

My aunt lives in Vernon and has a nice view of Lake Okanagan (which is a kilometer downhill from her house, max). Over the weekend, she couldn't see the lake and they were at something like 350+. (The air up there is now slightly better than it is down here.)

I really hope it gets better tomorrow. I miss breathing.

I'm thankful for the purity of the air where I am. I should probably be outside right now, appreciating this lovely morning.

Ugh. Fire season in Aus started early - my parents' town got cut off by an out-of-control bushfire last weekend, right before I was due to fly out. Needless to say I (safe in Sydney) /freaked out/, because that is the kind of person I am.

Man, I've been hearing from my west coast buddies about this, and it sounds truly awful. I mean, jeez Louise. I always joked that Phoenix was Hell, cleverly marketed, but I guess the whole west coast wanted up in that action.
