Yeah, I wonder how deliberate that is. Particularly with Calico Jack—their portrayal of him is so wildly different that it feels like an intentional choice to distinguish themselves from BS and not have any overlap. (Incidentally, their portrayal is probably more historically accurate, much as I love the version of him on BS.)
And then they've got, amongst the few female characters, a pirate-adjacent Black woman who's poly running a bar and being the centre of the pirate economy, who they're also taking great pains to distinguish from Max on BS.
Put together I think they're like, "okay if we include the historical female pirates, how do we make sure we're not overlapping with some very iconic depictions on BS"? And I think the answer is they're going to have to do very different ones.
