radiantfractureReally no wifi to speak of, but here’s a bit from today about our hike around the valley.

The white road was paved in fine ripples. Because I was climbing up it in my dusty blue sneakers, I thought vaguely that these small corrugations might be there to help the soles of my shoes grip. (In the moment, I saw everything in terms of the moment.) For the tires of cars on a thin steep road, or for runoff, more likely.
Just one length of the high curving road, that thrown rope of desire snaking up the ridge, was paved — then gravel again on either end. We passed one valley stacked inside another like clay cups, an orange ridge inside the curved fingers of a blue one.
No use taking pictures except as a record or in case we needed a way to navigate back. Those layers of valley and ridge, stacks of stone pages, can’t be read on a flat screen. You’d need a screen that flexed and flowed like water, I thought, watching the stream that ran beside the road in a concrete channel, clean and bright as a lens spun down to a thread of glass.
