Here's the thing I've been helping to organize! Just picked up my posters for distro today.

A blurb:

Come celebrate the Rachel Reid book that started the whole phenomenon. Attend Victoria Festival of Authors' spring fundraiser at the Sports View Lounge above Oak Bay Rec on May 8th (7-9 pm). There will be burlesque, drag, and 🌶🌶🌶🌶 readings from real-life Victoria residents who have broken barriers around gender and sexuality in Canadian sports. Even better than the cottage!

Operamania (opera + wrestling)

Like a specific opera, or opera in general?

The first time they did a couple of songs from 3 or 4 operas with some wrestling and other bits mixed in. I've made my (overly long...) review of the first edition public for now.

This will be the second time they've done an Operamania and I imagine it will be a similar format, but who knows! The wrestlers and singers have had even more time to work together, so I expect it to be even better.

(I trained and have performed as a classical singer, is the direction I came at that question from, but I am conversant with the concepts of professional wrestling. Probably most conversant with the vocabulary through the carryover from carny talk. I read a lot of pulp.)
