Small Canadian wanders the internets thanking Americans for voting.

I was listening to a really interesting discussion of Mike Leigh's latest, Peterloo, on something BBC-derived -- either Kermode and Mayo or the Saturday Review, I should think -- about how the point of struggle is often not that you win but that your struggle made more struggles possible, thinkable, believe-in-able. It seemed apposite, and then I saw [personal profile] rydra_wong's post about how the work is never wasted.

This is not to say that I anticipate its being wasted. I anticipate nothing. It seems safer.

I had great plans for this afternoon to be extra functional -- work, gym -- but I think it will be Nap. For dinner I'm meeting a friend at the Korean fried chicken place, and then I'm going to bring chicken to S.'s place, and LB and S and I will watch the midterm results until we are too sleepy to go on.

Talking of the work never being wasted, Mary Fildes (on the platform at Peterloo) then went on to get prosecuted for distributing pornography (advice on birth control), be involved in Chartism, retire to run a pub in Chester, take custody of her grandson Luke when she thought her son, Luke's father, was neglecting him, argue with Luke about Luke's plan's to study art, lose, finance Luke's studies nonetheless, see Luke become a radical illustrator of the works of, among others, Charles Dickens.
