I am in search of microfiction-length (1-2 paragraph) speculative fiction / wonderworks by Indigenous authors for a lesson on the genre.

I want to delight my students but I need to refrain from piling more reading on them.

Any recs?

Any recs?

Stephen Graham Jones (Blackfeet Native American writer of primarily horror and weird fiction) has an entire collection of microfiction: States of Grace (2014).

YOU ARE GREAT

You're welcome!

(I recommend Jones' work in general. He is also a delightful person to be on panels with, as I have had the pleasure of doing.)

I see that I have read Mapping the Interior, possibly at your suggestion.

It is entirely plausible. Also, cool!

...You haven't got a copy, I suppose?

I don't, I'm sorry. Has it done something inconvenient like go out of print?

I just wanted to look cool for Friday.

You'll still look cool next Friday! I didn't realize there was a time constraint.

I gave up and therefore found a personal story online of a woman who encountered a creature up north, so I told them that, with spooky voice and sound effect (knocking on the wall for knocking on the ice.)

Cool! That sounds effective to me.

I just discovered this magazine, whose archives may or may not be of use to you.

So cool to see this conversation! I just saw a suggestion in another context to write to authors and [politely!] ask for what one needs, so you could try asking Stephen Graham Jones for a microfiction or two by email. I imagine he would be supportive especially if you also put in a book order. (Probably you already thought of this!)

Most of Darcie Little Badger's (Lipan Apache, multi-flavor SFF) short fiction is too long for your purposes, but I personally am delighted by "Robo-Liopleurodon!"
