S. was supposed to fly out to San Diego tonight, but the windstorm trapped him at the airport for hours, and eventually he had to go home.

Great swathes of the city have been without power, but so far the beautiful shed is fine. Good thing, too, as Eustace Scrubb is hard at work -- Eustace being my new roommate, the countertop dishwasher and Narnia skeptic.

Went round to the pub for term-end with the work co-conspirator. Just walking around the corner was like having a violent shower. We talked musical aspirations and failings, paths to English degrees (roundabout) and Dungeons & Dragons.

I drank an extra beer (3 instead of 2! It's vacation!) and we ended up networking with the next table over (cultural consultant/birthday party) and also the server (in search of octopus drawings). As I am old and he has a family, we ended the night at 10:15, which means I went home and unwound by trying to play my grandfather's violin, with about the results you might expect.

I have a post about the solstice ritual and dinner with LB & S that wants to be brought into the world, but not the energy tonight. Back to the violin! I still sound almost as good as I did at 11. (Played for 7 years. Never got any better.)

That's excellently named.

Happy solstice!

For the better, I hope.

I played violin too! Still have it, though it needs maintenance. Haven't played in ages, so you probably sound better than me.

Yeah, the wind has picked up here too.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time at the pub!

Happy holidays -- are you currently actively playing D&D? I haven't quite gotten through the 5e rules yet (180 pages, yeesh) but HAVE been introduced to the campaign and gotten off to a start.
